EVENT RECAP: Vantage Minneapolis

Vantage Thank You

The Vantage Minneapolis event on June 3, 2015 brought in over 120 local Minneapolis solution providers, Ingram Micro   associates, and Manufacturer representative attendees to the Hyatt Regency in Downtown Minneapolis. With the event theme of “Improve Your Vantage Point – how to prepare for the new IT”, Ingram Micro’s objective was to improve our customers’ vantage points by helping solution providers and manufacturer partners build their businesses and be more   profitable by developing 3 key areas:

1) Understand today’s market challenges and offer relevant solutions

2) Identify and bring new market opportunities to our partners

3) Enable our partners to focus on their core businesses and leverage our vast capabilities

One of the main highlights of the day’s agenda was the Keynote Address from Michael Rogers, Practical Futurist, who recently completed two years as futurist-in-residence for The New York Times and is a columnist for NBC.com. He is also a best-selling novelist whose fiction explores the human impact of technology. He shared great insight on the future of technology and where it’s taking us. Choosing the Right Architecture for the Application and Environment

The pace at which server and storage technology is advancing, particularly in the area of virtualization, has left large gaps in knowledge among general IT departments. This has lead to poorly designed architectures resulting in performance challenges. Well-educated, experienced and technically competent storage resellers have a great opportunity to help these IT departments through professional analysis, systems design, installation services and training. A quality reseller can help future-proof the customer against growing data and performance hungry databases and server virtualization technology. Speak with an Ingram Micro Representative today about Nexsan storage solutions by Imation.

Nexsan by Imation -- "...the IT industry's thirst for great numbers of virtual machines puts significant pressure on the storage infrastructure which can only be addressed by more efficient design."

The Emergence of Huddle Rooms

The emergence of huddle rooms and why quality audio conferencing is important in these rooms

Companies today are challenged during the typical conference call due to sound quality or speaker limitations of the systems they are using. Many institutions create smaller huddle rooms where their teams can meet and collaborate in a more intimate setting. When users meet for conference calls typically their colleagues gather closely around a speaker phone or use the internal speakers and microphone of their laptop/PC. Both of these scenarios provide poor audio quality. When the sound quality of a call is poor it impacts the overall effectiveness of a meeting. The best video feed cannot make up for bad audio. Many times companies also need a solution that can support IP, softphone and webinar applications in one system. To solve both of these problems corporations need to be sure they are equipped with high quality audio communication technology.

Revolabs conference phones solve these problems. The FLX UC conference phones provide professional quality full duplex audio through tweeter and mid-woofer speaker elements, integrated acoustic echo cancellation and four embedded microphones giving full 360° coverage. The UC 1000 combines a USB speakerphone with a VoIP conference phone that bridges calls between the two. The UC 500 is for USB softphone/webinar only calls.

Ingram Micro and Partners Provide IT Makeover for Los Angeles Elementary School

Ingram Micro was pleased to announce Dorris Place Elementary School as the winner of its recent IT Makeover Contest. Dorris Place, a Title I school in East Los Angeles, received all-new equipment for its computer lab thanks to the following manufacturer partners:

Samsung donated 40 Chromebook 2 computers with Intel Inside®, 12 Galaxy Tab 4 Education tablets, one printer, one 65″ LFD display, one Touch Overlay, and one MagicInfo Whiteboard Software solution.

Xerox provided four multifunction printers and has pledged to supply toner for the remainder of the school year.

Seagate provided storage equipment including 40 2TB Backup Plus Portable Drives.

NEC has donated four large-format display solutions.

Kensington donated 40 mice and computer locks, 12 tablet cases, and several wireless printers.

GeoVision provided security surveillance cameras to monitor the school building.

Peerless-AV provided four Flat Panel Floor Carts for displays.

Ergotron donated one Tablet/Chromebook Charging Cart and one Tablet Charging Wall Unit.

Kingston donated 350 USB drives.

V7 donated 40 keyboards.

NG IT Solutions and C1P Solutions provided installation of the technology.

Dorris Place Elementary School is a high-performing but underfunded K-6 school where more than 80 percent of students receive free or reduced price lunch. The winning submission, an essay by 8-year-old Gala Lennane-Gordon, detailed the students’ inability to continue learning necessary computer skills and receive online tutoring due to malfunctioning and nearly decade-old equipment. Students also struggled to prepare for the new Smarter Balance online, standardized test without regular access to current technology.

“I don’t want us to score low and be labeled [negatively],” Lennane-Gordon wrote. “I want us to do our best and be recognized for how special we are.”

With the new equipment, students will be able to practice on computers before taking the state standardized test. Additionally, the school can provide better access to a technology curriculum that will serve students in the future, including Microsoft Office skills and typing, and will re-open after-school computer programs, including a math skills lab and online tutoring, which closed due to insufficient technology.

“These children are a worthwhile investment, and many don’t have access to computers at home. We’re setting the children up for success by offering these classes,” said Blaire Lennane, Gala’s mother and founder of the nonprofit organization Partners of Dorris, which fundraises for Dorris Place Elementary School.

“At Ingram Micro, serving the community is a vital part of our company culture,” said Paul Bay, executive vice president and president North America, Technology Solutions. “Getting to extend the love of technology to these children has been a truly memorable experience, and we are pleased to help equip them with the tools they need to thrive.”

“We are over the moon about this,” said Susan D. Schmidt, principal of Dorris Place. “This is a terrific opportunity for our children; we are extremely grateful and excited.”
